After Jesus Comes Back, earth will enjoy 1,000 years of peace after the devil goes to jail (Revelation 20:1-6). After he does his time, the devil will come back to incite a riot against the Lord and His followers, but Jesus destroys his followers and sends them to the lake of fire with the devil (20:7-10).

The Revelation of Jesus Christ

The last book of the Bible seems scary to people. However, it is not the Revelation of how scary things will be. It reveals Jesus Himself. The gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) introduce us to Jesus. This book shows us His true identity.

In chapter 1, we see the Lord Jesus is the Alpha and Omega (1:8, 11) and the one who is, was, and is to come (1:8). The heavenly worshipers call out to the One on the throne saying He is the one “Who was and is and is to come” (4:8). So from this we know that Jesus Christ is the one seated on throne (1:14-17). Later, the book tells us the One on the throne sits to judge (20:11), a job Jesus fulfills (John 5:22). At the end of the book, we know the One on the throne is Jesus Christ, for He claims the same statements He made in chapter 1 and invites victorious believers to let Him be their God (21:6-7). In the last chapter of the Bible, we read “the Lord God of the holy prophets sent his angel” (22:6) and Jesus says, “I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches” (22:16). So the Lord God and Jesus Christ are One and the same. Furthermore, Jesus says, “I am the root and the offspring of David” (22:16). As the root, He is David’s author, source, or Creator. As the offspring He is David’s descendant. So Jesus is both Lord and Christ (Acts 2:36).

The New Jerusalem

God’s eternal kingdom comes to a recreated earth (Daniel 2:34-35, 7:9-14). The Lord Jesus will rule and reign from the New Jerusalem, described as being 1500 miles square and 1500 miles high (Revelation 21). This dazzling city will be His headquarters on earth where we will no longer have sunshine, but the light of the Son—the glory of God will shine throughout.

Reigning in the Kingdom Age

Jesus told stories to indicate that we have a reward awaiting us in His eternal city (Matthew 25:14-30). Those who seek His kingdom will be rewarded in ways we really cannot understand right now. It appears we will reign with Him for a thousand years before eternity begins. Then, according to our responses to His calling on our lives, we will serve alongside Him. Those who put in a little effort to expand the Kingdom will receive a little reward. Those who put in a lot of effort will receive great reward. Those who put in no effort will be cast out of the kingdom (Matthew 25:30). What kind of investment will you make right now?

Great Final Judgment

Those who have not accepted the free gift of salvation offered by Jesus Christ will face the White Throne Judgment at the end of time. God’s people will already have been resurrected at this point and only unbelievers will face this replay of all their sins. Their punishment will match the crime. The un-redeemed will be judged by whether they have obeyed the Word of God (John 12:48). God will judge them by their thoughts and attitudes (Romans 2:15-16). He will judge them for their words (Matthew 12:36-37). And our Lord Jesus will judge them by whatever actions or works they have done (Revelation 20:12). The very word preached by Christ and His representatives will judge them as to whether or not they obeyed the Gospel (Mark 16:15-16; II Thessalonians 1:8-9; 2:9-12). In all of this, the Lord will judge them from the Book of Life (Revelation 20:12, 15).

God will cast all sinners into the Lake of Fire often called Hell (Revelation 14:11; 20:10-15; 21:8; Mark 9:44; Jude 13). This is called the Second Death, because their bodies have already died, but now their inner person will suffer eternally in the lake of fire. Some people think they will just burn up in Hell. However, the scripture says the Antichrist and his prophet will be in hellfire for 1,000 years before anyone else joins them. It does not say they were in the fire, it says they still are (Revelation 20:10). If we reject Jesus, or start out with Him and give up, we will pay a painful, miserable price forever.

The New Heaven and New Earth

Being with Jesus will be reward enough to escape the torments of hell that God has prepared for the devil and his demons (Matthew 25:41). The new heaven and earth will have no more disease, no more pain, no more suffering, no more death, no more loss, no more sin or temptation. The little bit of sacrifice it takes to live for God now will be worth it in the end. Today is the day of salvation. If you have not repented of your sins, taken on the Name of Jesus in baptism and received His Spirit, you should not let the sun go down until you do. Don’t let that eternal Day with the Lord become an eternal nightmare of horror for you.

Stay on the right path

Jesus said there will be some people who think they have their walk with God all together. They went to church and someone told them they were saved. They will cry out at the throne, “Lord, Lord!” But Jesus will say, “I never knew you. Depart from me!” (Matthew 7:21-23). Too many people are on the wrong religious road. They claim Jesus but do not follow His word. They say they love the Lord, but refuse to take His name in baptism. They say God is their Father but do not think they need to be filled with His Spirit. Billions of people are going to the Lake of Fire. Only a few are on the path of life (Matthew 7:13-14). Get on the right path and fight against every temptation and sin until you arrive at your destination. Follow God’s Word and join a truth-preaching church to stay on the right path until you reach the golden gates of the New Jerusalem.
